How much are the child counselling sessions?

All child therapy formats began with an initial intake of 1.5 hours, followed by regular sessions.

  • Intake sessions are 1.5 hours long, and are charged at $180.
  • Individual CCPT sessions are 50 minutes long, and are S$140 per session.
  • Individual Filial Therapy sessions are 1 hour long, and are S$140 per session.
  • Group Filial Therapy is a series of 10 weekly group sessions. Each is 2 hours long, and costs $90 per session. Group Filial Therapy programmes are billed as a block of $900 for all ten sessions.

Let’s begin with the similarities. Both CCPT and Filial Family Therapy are attachment- and play-based forms of child therapy. They use the experience and language of play and the safety of a caring and consistent adult to process kids’ big feelings and help them to heal and rewire their brain. Emotional and behavioural struggles are reduced as their internal self-confidence and capacity to self-regulate grows.

Now for the differences.

  • In CCPT, I work directly with your child, one-on-one. Each session lasts 50 minutes. Our attachment forms the basis for your child’s therapeutic work. This is ideal if parents are too busy or stressed to commit to learning and delivering therapeutic play, or in situations where there is too much conflict between kids and parents for the parents to directly deliver the sessions.
  • In Filial Family Therapy, I work with you so that you can work with your child. Each session lasts 1 hour. I teach and guide you through the process of picking up the therapeutic play skills, applying and refining them in regular home play sessions, understanding what your child is communicating in their play, and generalising these skills to other areas of you and your child’s daily life. Your own parent-child attachment will strengthen, and forms the basis for your child’s therapeutic work. This is the ideal choice if you’re open to self-reflection and learning, and resourced enough to commit to learning and delivering the play sessions. It’s also especially supportive for those with adopted children. You are more important to your child than I will ever be!
  • In Group Filial Therapy, you will learn these skills alongside a small group of parents, over the course of 10 weekly sessions of 2 hours each.  You will benefit in hearing from other parents’ experiences (both their struggles and their inspiring stories!), and from the inevitable sense of support and camaraderie that arises from the group all seeking to better understand and support their children. To really thrive and benefit in this environment, you will need a certain level of comfort in sharing your home play sessions with the other parents in your group. You will of course also need to commit to the scheduled sessions and forego the flexibility of individual filial sessions.

I accept payment via PayNow (you can use the UEN number or QR code).

For weekly sessions, you can choose to make payment on a monthly basis for a 5% discount, or on a per-session basis. Payment must be made before the month/session.

I’m currently unable to offer sliding scale fees, but am in the process of building up a fund to enable needs-based reduced fees in the future. Please get in touch to join my waiting list if this is something you require.

*If you would like to support families in need by paying benefactor fees for your child therapy sessions, please let me know.

During our initial intake session, I will meet with you alone to cover three key areas:

  1. Gathering developmental history
  2. Understanding your child’s strengths and challenges
  3. Outlining therapeutic goals and next steps

1. Gathering developmental history

We’ll spend much of the time walking through your child’s developmental history. Typically, we cover topics such as:

  • Mother’s pregnancy and child’s early development
  • Child’s medical history
  • Family dynamics and significant life changes (like divorce, loss, and migration)
  • School performance and relationships
  • Previous experiences with support services

2. Understanding your child’s strengths and challenges

We’ll then discuss your child’s strengths, the challenges they’re currently facing, and what your hopes are for them. At this stage, you will also complete a couple of questionnaires.

3. Outlining therapeutic goals and next steps

Based on the information we’ve gathered, we’ll outline therapeutic goals for your child and the steps needed to get them there.

Both CCPT (Child-Centred Play Therapy) and Filial Family Therapy are held on a weekly basis. These forms of therapy are attachment-based, and frequency and consistency are key to establish trust between child and adult.

You may reschedule our session at least 24 hours in advance – just send me a message and we can sort out an alternative time that works for us.

Cancellations/reschedules with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a 50% charge, due on the same day of the scheduled session. This helps us honour the time that we’ve set aside to meet.

That said, we all fall sick sometimes – so if it’s a case of illness or an accident, please let me know and we’ll waive the 50% charge. I will minimise any unforeseen reschedules from my side!

Yes, I’d be happy to have a 20-minute call to address your concerns and assess if CCPT or Filial Therapy is the right fit for your child. Please use our calendar to book your free chat.

Please schedule an intake session by contacting me on WhatsApp.

Can I be included in the sessions?
  • CCPT is a one-on-one child therapy. To keep the focus on your child, the actual CCPT sessions will include just me and them.
  • As a parent, your involvement is crucial. We’ll meet regularly (every 5-6 sessions) for parent consultations. During these consults, I’ll share updates on your child’s progress, hear from you on your child’s challenges and changes outside the playroom, and offer additional support as needed.

If you are keen to be an ever deeper part of the process, and want to learn to do therapeutic play with your child, please consider Filial Therapy instead, which focuses on using the parent-child relationship to support your child to overcome their challenges.

  • We will meet regularly for parent consultations, via video call or in-person , generally after every 5-6 sessions.
  • During our meetings, I will share some of my observations of the work your child is doing in the playroom and the progress they’re making, check in on
recent developments in your child’s life, including challenges and changes, and give space for your enquiries. I may also offer suggestions on resources or practical ideas that could be helpful for you and your child.
  • Your child’s specific play will remain private, so that they always feel free to express what’s present for them.

These regular meetings are very important. Your involvement plays a big role in your child successfully overcoming their difficulties.

A full run of CCPT typically lasts 15 to 20 sessions. That said, each child progresses at their own pace – some may require more or less time.

CCPT sessions are held once a week. This form of therapy is attachment-based, and frequency and consistency are key to establish trust between child and adult, especially in the initial stages.

As your child progresses, we’ll often taper off our sessions to meet fortnightly and then monthly, to gently wean them off before they stop coming in altogether.

What's the difference between group and individual Filial Therapy sessions?
  • Group Filial Therapy takes the form of a more structured 10-week programme, and you’ll learn play skills and receive support in your child’s therapeutic work alongside other parents.
  • Individual Filial Therapy is more flexible in nature, and you will receive more individual attention and be able to tailor the training and therapy to you and your child’s specific needs.

For more details, please refer to the ‘General’ tab in the FAQ.

A full run of individual Filial Therapy typically lasts 12 to 15 sessions.
